WHAT WE DO
At Zoran Construction, we strive to give you the best quality work at the best price. We are ready to create for your home or business the most beautiful Venetian plaster walls possible, in any color or style you wish.
We can do just about anything on a wall with Venetian plaster and its "cousin," lime paint. They work with any décor or architectural style and are resistant not just to mildew but to going out of style. Many finishes (from faux to regular paint) age poorly. Like fine wine, however, Venetian plaster actually can actually improve with the years.
Zoran Construction can create countless effects for you with Venetian plaster. In general, however, we recommend that you not go for "too much" with colors and techniques. The most enduring look (and therefore the most value-enhancing) tends to be the simplest and most classic. But of course, we can do stenciling and murals and whimsical effects too, if that is what is needed.
Here are a few quick options of what we might do for you:
- Two coats of the same color
- Two coats of different colors, the second coat in patches to reveal the first coat
- Three coats of different colors, each applied to reveal what’s underneath
- Stenciled third coat (possibly stenciling on multiple layers for a complex pattern)
- Sanding away the edges of dried stencil to look less like a stencil and more like carved stone
- Scrafito, or reverse stenciling, removes the second layer from the first to reveal designs
- Electrically carve (using a Dremel) the top layer to reveal what’s underneath.
- Lime paint with a single color, multiple colors, multiple layers, or sponging – wet on wet or wet on dry.
- Lime paint for border designs or murals. Can be combined with oil-based or acrylic paints
- Use of sealers to create different effects and colors, such as blue sealer or wax on top of green Marmorino
- Impressions with plants or animal paws (or whatever) on wet Marmorino
- Gilding with gold, silver or copper leaf
… And the list goes on!
The materials we use (Veneziano, Marmorino, lime paint) will depend on the effect you desire. Veneziano, for example, is thinner than the more sandy Marmorino and allows for many coats of color; each layer is slightly transparent so depth and color are revealed. We can also sand down the plaster when dry, revealing layers and colors. Lime paint can be used alone or for decorative painting on top of Marmorino or Veneziano. We can gild lime paint, rag or sponge it on, polish it with wet or dry sanding, and use a variety of sealers and waxes with it. Burnishing is a necessary final step no matter what for its aesthetic value and also because it compacts the plaster and makes it harder and more durable.
So, as you can see, our mastery of Venetian plaster techniques allows us to help you create the space you want, and enhance the value of your property.
